In Good Faith

Abigail Sullivan

“In good faith,” they say—

As the lies twist tighter than a noose.

“We will not harm you,” they say—

As our neighbors disappear quietly.

“Trust us,” they say—

While the strings pull the puppet on stage.

“We are afraid,” we say—

But they do not listen, nor do they care

They call for us to trust in their God,

When the words they speak exalt themselves as one.

Disclaimer:

This collection is a work of poetic expression. The imagery and language are symbolic and critical in nature, reflecting on systems of power, civic trust, and collective grief. It is not an endorsement of harm, nor a condemnation of belief, but an examination of how authority and language are used and misused. Any religious, national, or political imagery is used symbolically to invite reflection, not to assign blame.
